No Envelope ATM Deposit, Take Two
Maybe this seems like a silly thing to get excited about, but I was really jazzed to find out my Wells Fargo ATM can now accept cash and checks without envelopes. I had already tried the cash to great success (it gets posted immediately to your account!) and today I deposited a check.
The ATM not only accepted the check but read the dollar amount off the check (in scrawly handwriting) and then popped out a receipt with a miniature copy of the check printed on it. Wow!
I suppose it would be even “greener” to not get a receipt, but I always like a paper copy. I do recycle them, however.

Hi Stephanie- this is Joel from Wells Fargo. We’re jazzed about it too and glad you like the envelope free deposits and check images on the receipts. Did you know that you can deposit stacks of bills (up to 30 bills in different denominations) and checks (up to 10) directly into the machine at one time? Come on-that’s pretty cool! Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate your business.
I am a PM for a financial institution that is deploying the Envelope Free atm and marketing wants to term the product as green because we save an envelope by not using one. I agree that printing a receipt contradicts this message but I will remind anyone who challenges that they can certainly recycle the receipt. I am glad to hear that you have had a couple of good experiences and I hope that our customers will be just as excited.
I just used a no-envelope ATM last night at Chase Bank and was quite pleased. First, there’s not the pile of envelopes that for whatever reason got wasted that you always see and I like that the ATM scanned it and is processing the check already without sending it off to a human to open the envelope and process it, etc.
